Most confirmed cases linked to contact with family or elderly day care centers
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] In Gyeongnam, 27 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were reported overnight.
As of 10 a.m. on the 4th, Gyeongnam Province announced that 27 confirmed cases occurred: 17 in Gimhae, 4 in Hadong, 3 in Changwon, and 3 in Goseong.
The 17 confirmed cases in Gimhae emerged from a senior day care center attended by cases 656 (female in her 90s) and 657 (female in her 70s), who were confirmed the previous day with unknown infection routes.
The province closed the center and conducted a full investigation of 31 people, including 21 elderly attendees and 10 staff members. As a result, 17 women tested positive: one in their 40s, three in their 50s, one in their 60s, three in their 70s, six in their 80s, and three in their 90s. They were classified as cases 667 through 683.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the Gimhae senior day care center to 19.
In Goseong, three people (Gyeongnam cases 659, 684?685) tested positive. Case 659 was a man in his 50s who had contact with case 650, confirmed in Changwon on the 2nd. Cases 684 and 685 are family members of case 659, who was confirmed at the senior care center.
In Changwon, three people?a man in his 30s, a woman in her 50s, and a young girl?who were family contacts of case 658, confirmed the previous day with an unknown infection route, tested positive and were classified as cases 664 through 666.
The four confirmed cases in Hadong were identified as contacts of case 896 from Busan, who is a family member.
Health authorities are investigating the infection routes and contacts of the confirmed cases.
Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 682 (233 hospitalized, 448 discharged, 1 deceased).
