Catching 15 Million Petfam Families... GS25 Launches 'Pet Diary'

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store GS25 is partnering with Yangjisa to launch a pet diary dedicated to pet families (a compound word of pets and family).

GS Retail, which operates the convenience store GS25, announced on the 4th that it will introduce ‘Banda (Pet Diary),’ which allows recording the growth story of pets that are growing every year.

As the number of pet-owning families exceeds 10 million, the trend of pet families and pet me families continues to increase. According to the ‘2019 National Awareness Survey on Animal Protection’ by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, there are about 5.91 million pet-owning households, and considering the average household size (2.4 people), the number of people raising pets reaches about 15 million.

The Banda introduced by GS25 is composed of vaccination records, checklists, management tips, household accounts, etc., related to pet care, allowing owners to write the growth story of their precious pets over one year. The internal illustrations feature a pet dog character named ‘Ppang-a’ and the owner drawn in cute illustrations, expected to stimulate the desire to own among female consumers in their 20s and 30s. The product can be purchased nationwide at GS25 stores, the Banda homepage, and Yangjimall starting from the 3rd of this month, priced at 10,000 KRW.

By entering the serial number attached inside the product on the Yangjisa website, personalized diaries, photo books, desk calendars, and various pet supplies can be created exclusively for the owner and their pet.

A Yangjisa official said, “Since this Banda product was realized through the meeting of the industry’s top companies, the diary’s product quality is fundamental, and we have done our best to include diverse content for writing.” He added, “We will continue to create a friendly corporate brand image that approaches consumers with various themes and products in the future.”

Moon Sung-pil, Deputy General Manager of the Life Living Planning Team at GS Retail, said, “This product was planned for customers who cherish their pets like family and want to provide pet families with a unique experience. We hope that through the diary, they will have more precious time with their pets.” He added, “We will monitor customer responses and ensure that this product becomes one that improves and develops every year.”
