Efforts to Support Women in Marginalized Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] CJ Olive Young has been recognized for its contributions to the local community through various social contribution activities for underprivileged women in Korea.
CJ Olive Young announced on the 4th that it was selected as a ‘Community Contribution Recognized Company’ for 2020, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare.
The Community Contribution Recognition System is a program that acknowledges companies’ contributions to solving social issues in collaboration with local non-profit organizations. Following the first certification of about 30 large corporations last year, 40 large corporations including CJ Olive Young were recognized this year.
Under the core brand value of ‘Healthy Beauty,’ CJ Olive Young was acknowledged for supporting the independence of marginalized groups within the local community. It has been evaluated as contributing to regional development by continuously engaging in social contribution activities such as the Pink Box campaign and support for single-parent mothers.
Since 2016, when the sanitary pad harmful substance controversy occurred, CJ Olive Young has annually delivered handmade cotton sanitary pads and various hygiene products to female adolescents through the 'Pink Box Campaign.' Last year alone, it delivered 2,000 Pink Boxes to the Seoul Metropolitan Teenage Women’s Health Center, supporting a cumulative total of 4,600 female adolescents.
Additionally, CJ Olive Young has partnered with the Holt Children’s Welfare Association, a social welfare corporation, for five years to improve awareness and support the independence of single-parent mothers. In July, it donated funds to the Holt Children’s Welfare Association and supported psychological counseling for single-parent families. It also conducted on-tact beauty counseling providing customized beauty solutions for single-parent mothers.
Furthermore, in September, CJ Olive Young delivered gift boxes consisting of cosmetic sets to the international relief NGO G Foundation to help restore the self-esteem of single-parent mothers.
A CJ Olive Young official stated, “Being selected as a Community Contribution Recognized Company is the result of Olive Young’s sincere and continuous efforts to support the independence of the underprivileged.” They added, “We will continue to strengthen communication with the local community and carry out mutually beneficial activities that provide practical help.”
