[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The daily number of deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the United States has surpassed 3,100.


On the 3rd, US CNN reported, citing data from Johns Hopkins University, that the number of COVID-19 deaths reached 3,157 on the 2nd (local time). This is about a 20% increase compared to the previous highest daily death toll of 2,603 on April 15.


CNN explained that with the onset of the full winter season, concerns are rising that the healthcare system's burden could intensify until February next year. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), also expressed concern, saying, "The next three months until February will be dangerous," and "It will be the most difficult period in the history of US public health."


Meanwhile, according to Johns Hopkins University data, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the US reached 13,925,350, with deaths totaling 273,847.
