[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department's solid situational response has once again shone.
For the first time in the region, they successfully carried out a fire suppression operation through a 'video call' using the 119 multimedia reporting service with the caller, achieving early containment.
According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 23rd, at around 1:45 PM that day, a report was received at the 119 situation room about a fire occurring at a jjimjilbang in Naju, Jeonnam.
Fire Chief Kim Donghee calmed the caller, who was flustered due to the fire, guided the caller to evacuate the jjimjilbang patrons, and requested the caller to relay the situation on site, but the call was disconnected, making the situation difficult.
Chief Kim immediately dispatched firefighters to the jjimjilbang and connected a video call with the caller using the '119 multimedia reporting service,' receiving live footage of the scene.
By confirming the scene in real time through the video, Chief Kim judged that fire suppression using a fire extinguisher was possible and calmly guided the caller on how to use the extinguisher, preventing the fire, which could have spread significantly, from escalating at an early stage.
Afterwards, the arriving fire crew completely extinguished the fire, and upon site inspection, it is estimated that embers from the hanjeungmak stove spread to the wooden floorboards and fabric pads.
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Fire Department's solid situational response is not limited to this case.
On September 23, Fire Officer Lee Hyojeong prevented casualties by guiding evacuation through lightweight partitions when a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment.
Also, on October 19, Fire Chief Kim Juri received a call reporting imminent childbirth and assisted delivery over the phone before the fire crew arrived, helping ensure a safe birth.
Fire Headquarters Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, “The 119 Integrated Situation Room serves as the control tower for Jeonnam Fire Department, handling information collection, dissemination, situation management, and disaster coordination,” adding, “We will continue to do our best at the starting point of disaster response.”
