Junggyeonmaeul Center and Summer Harmony Center to Establish Separate Senior Leisure Facilities... Various Projects Including Mobile Health Bus and Remote Health Management Services for Seniors
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) supports a healthy and vibrant old age by establishing and expanding senior centers, which are major living spaces for the elderly.
First is the Pyeonbaek Senior Center.
‘Pyeonbaek’ means a leisure space where one can comfortably and happily live to 100 years old, located near Bulam Elementary School at Junggye-ro 16-gil 36-1.
It is a total of 108.74㎡ (about 33 pyeong) in size, remodeled by purchasing a detached house (94.44㎡).
The senior center consists of 2 rooms, 2 restrooms, a living room, and an underground storage room.
In particular, one existing room was demolished to expand the kitchen and veranda space for easier use by the elderly. Additionally, a vegetable garden was created in the front yard, and a pergola was installed in the backyard to allow enjoyment of games like baduk or janggi.
The biggest feature of the Pyeonbaek Senior Center is that it is a pilot project for Seoul’s zero-energy buildings, maximizing housing energy performance. A waste heat recovery device was installed that absorbs heat from solar power and waste hot water to produce new hot water.
Also, a low-NOx eco-friendly boiler was installed that absorbs and recycles the high-temperature heat released during exhaust gas emission, improving energy efficiency and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
Along with this, high insulation and high airtight windows were used to reduce energy consumption.
Bongsan Senior Center (Sanggye 1-dong 1117-11) has also been newly renovated. Opened in 2004, this place has been used by about 30 elderly people in a temporary building less than 10 pyeong in size. Due to the cramped space and safety concerns, remodeling was urgently needed.
The district purchased nearby land, built a 40.55㎡ building, and connected it to the existing senior center through a linking construction for use. Outside, artificial turf and fences were installed to give a neat impression.
Along with this, the district plans to prepare separate spaces for the elderly within the Junggye On Village Center and Hagye Eoullim Center, which are currently under establishment. The Junggye On Village Center will have an elderly job center training room and a silver caf?, and the Hagye Eoullim Center will have a silver billiards room and table tennis room.
Since last July, the district has also been focusing on providing convenience to the elderly by operating services such as the ‘Visiting Mobile Health Bus’ for health checkups for seniors who have difficulty visiting medical institutions due to mobility issues or economic difficulties, and the ‘Remote Health Management Service for the Elderly’ using various smart information devices such as wristwatch-type activity trackers and AI speakers.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Since the elderly have a narrow living radius, leisure facilities easily accessible near their residence and visiting services are necessary. We will continue to strive to promote various policies, including the senior center improvement project.”
