Even Self-Activated iPhones Can Now Enroll in 'SKT Lost Insurance'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] When using SK Telecom's rate plan with a self-supplied iPhone, customers will be able to subscribe to SK Telecom's loss insurance.

On the 3rd, the Korea Communications Commission announced that it requested SK Telecom to investigate the subscription status of loss insurance related to self-supplied iPhones and to provide loss insurance.

SK Telecom decided, after consultations with insurance companies, to offer loss insurance services to self-supplied iPhone users starting from the 4th. Customers can subscribe to loss insurance by visiting SK Telecom's agencies and branches with a receipt within 60 days of purchasing the device.

Until now, loss insurance subscriptions were not accepted if the iPhone was not purchased directly from the carrier, but with this measure by the Korea Communications Commission, the scope of loss insurance coverage has been expanded to include self-supplied iPhones.

The Korea Communications Commission stated, "We expect the inconvenience of self-supplied device users to be resolved and plan to continuously strive to ensure that self-supplied devices and carrier devices are not treated differently."
