University Innovation Support Project Group Promotes AI Specialized Symbol Character ‘Ddagu’ Brand

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A red ‘bolddagu (boldtaegi)’, ears spread like leaves, and closely set eyes, nose, and mouth... A cute ‘squirrel’ has been born.
The squirrel’s name is ‘Ddagu’, a character squirrel.
The Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) University Innovation Support Project Group is promoting various innovative programs by unveiling the character ‘Ddagu’.
Ddagu is a character inspired by the curious animal, the squirrel. It features the adorable appearance of a squirrel storing acorns in its cheeks.
The character idea and name were borrowed from the Gyeongsang-do dialect term for cheek, ‘bolddagu’.
To symbolize Dongmyung University’s TU-AI specialization strategy, the story of carefully accumulating advanced devices and data in Ddagu’s cheeks is embedded in the character.
Professor Lee Ji-eun of the University Innovation Support Project Group explained, “Ddagu will serve as a brand asset and communication tool that approaches more friendly and comfortably, breaking away from the rigid image generally held by educational brands.”
Professor Lee added, “It is not simply following trends but building a character story suited to AI specialization, which is expected to contribute to forming the Dongmyung University brand in the future.”
Development manager Kim Nok-yeon said, “The reaction was enthusiastic the moment Ddagu was first revealed. We were concerned about how to efficiently promote the University Innovation Support Project to internal and external members, especially students, but now we can promote it in a fun and friendly way.”
Following the TU-AI specialization strategy, Dongmyung University established the AI Convergence College in 2021. This college consists of the AI Department (Artificial Intelligence Major, Information and Communication Major), Department of Computer Engineering, Department of Game Engineering, Department of Data Science, and Department of Software Convergence Security.
