SK Telecom Transforms into a 'Big Tech Company'... AI-Centered Organizational Restructuring SK Telecom Headquarters

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] SK Telecom is reorganizing its organization centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and technology to erase its image as a telecommunications company and transform into a big tech company.

This reorganization reflects the will to become a platform company centered on AI. President Park Jung-ho stated, “We reorganized the organization around core businesses and products, and AI will serve as the foundational platform for all businesses.”

The AI Service Division will change its name to AI&CO (company). While focusing on AI service development, it will also be responsible for enhancing the competitiveness of products and services of SK Telecom’s subsidiaries.

T3K has been reorganized into four major product companies concentrating on deep learning-based conversational AI ‘Korean GPT-3,’ ▲ AI accelerators ▲ data analytics platforms ▲ MEC (mobile edge computing) cloud development.

The core business division, the MNO Division, will be reorganized into a marketing company. It will be divided into detailed organizations responsible for nine core businesses, with the organization names including CO (company). The nine companies are mobile, subscription products, MR (mixed reality) services, cloud, IoT, messaging, authentication, smart factory, and advertising & data.

Along with this, to strengthen the MNO Division’s online services, an Untact CP (camp) has been newly established. The ICT Infrastructure Center, which was a separate organization for 5G infrastructure investment, has been moved under the MNO Division.

The role of the Corporate (Corp) Center, which is in charge of cooperation with global companies and subsidiary listings, has also expanded. It is responsible for discovering global business opportunities through cooperation with global big tech companies. A new IPO promotion team has been established under it to support domestic and international investment attraction and subsidiary IPOs. The ESG Innovation Group is in charge of the ESG activities of SK Telecom family companies.
