[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actress Han Ji-min said she has become more flexible through continuous change.
Han Ji-min shared various stories about the movie 'Josee' (directed by Kim Jong-kwan) during an online video interview on the 3rd.
Previously, Han Ji-min revealed a new side of herself by portraying a former convict living a lonely life in the 2018 film 'Miss Baek.' That year, she was recognized for her acting skills, winning Best Actress awards at the 39th Blue Dragon Film Awards, the 38th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, and the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Returning to the screen after two years with 'Josee' following 'Miss Baek,' Han Ji-min said, "At that time, I received a lot of love, but I tried hard not to realize it. Maybe I wanted to avoid the pressure of having to do better in subsequent works."
She continued, "The drama 'One Spring Night,' which I chose after 'Miss Baek,' was selected based on the same considerations I had when choosing previous works," but admitted, "Honestly, I can't say I have no pressure at all."
Han Ji-min said, "No matter the work, I can't shake off the pressure. I believe that empathy and comfort can be conveyed when I am seen fully as the character rather than as an actor, and I have focused on that point in my efforts."
In the film, Han Ji-min plays Josee, a character living in her own world. The character’s rough skin and dark atmosphere somewhat remind one of Baek Sang-ah from 'Miss Baek.' She said, "There may be overlaps in being clumsy in love, speaking informally, and appearing without makeup, but I tried to make the character distinct."
Han Ji-min shed her previously elegant image and consecutively showcased charismatic performances through intense roles. She pointed out the change, saying, "My personality changes a lot depending on the character. Although not intentional, I have actually become more charismatic and stronger."
Han Ji-min said, "As I age and accumulate experience in works, I have become less shaken. I don’t know how I will change in the future," adding, "In the past, change felt unfamiliar and awkward, but now I am satisfied with my changed self and have become more flexible. I look forward to the future. I am grateful to be able to show various sides without being confined to a single image."
'Josee' is a film depicting the most brilliant moments shared by Josee (played by Han Ji-min) and Young-seok (Nam Joo-hyuk), whose unforgettable name was met on their first day. The film is directed by Kim Jong-kwan, who also directed 'Worst Woman' and 'The Table.' It will be released on December 10.
