2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign Extended Until February 15 Next Year... Public-Private Joint Fundraising Activities... Focus on Expanding Online Donations Using Smartphone QR Codes and Old SNS
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) held an installation ceremony for the ‘Please Continue Hope Through Sharing! Love Donation Box’ on the first floor of the district office on the 2nd, officially launching the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project.
The ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project is a public-private partnership jointly promoted by the district and the Seoul Community Chest of Korea to raise private funds so that neighbors in difficult circumstances can spend a warm winter.
This opening ceremony was held to encourage voluntary participation and interest from local residents, organizations, and companies, reflecting the commitment of Gwanak-gu employees.
Moreover, considering the difficulty of face-to-face fundraising due to COVID-19 this year, the project focuses on non-face-to-face donations through smartphone QR code scanning and the expansion of online donations using the district’s SNS.
On the day of the event, the Seoul Chapter of the Korea Information and Communication Contractors Association sponsored about 10 million won in cash and goods, and Yonsei Geonwoo Hospital in the region donated 105 bags of 10kg rice, adding warmth to the occasion.
The district has set the fundraising period until February 15 next year and plans to actively discover private resources and make efforts to support neighbors in need in 2021 as well.
In each neighborhood, the local administrative officers will identify marginalized groups in welfare blind spots, and welfare planners will assist so that helping hands can be connected immediately.
Additionally, through sharing practices and volunteer activities, various support such as rice sharing, love kimchi support, and cold-weather supplies will be provided to help neighbors in difficulty regain hope and stand up.
Furthermore, the district will carry out item sharing and volunteer projects utilizing private resources and promote holiday donation sharing projects together with Gwanak Food Bank and Market.
Last year, the district raised about 2.15 billion won in donations and goods, supporting living expenses, medical expenses, housing costs, and tuition for elderly people living alone, low-income families, and single-parent families in the region.
Residents, companies, and organizations wishing to participate in the Hope Ondol Warm Winter project can inquire at the Welfare Policy Division or the local community service center, and donations can be made by depositing into the official Gwanak-gu account (Woori Bank 015-176590-13-518 Social Welfare Corporation Seoul Community Chest of Korea).
Mayor Park Junhee said, "At a time when many residents are suffering due to COVID-19, the culture of sharing is more necessary than ever," adding, "The district will continue to make efforts to support residents in difficulty, and I hope the warm hands for neighbors during the cold winter will continue this year as well."
