President Moon: "Thankful to Ruling and Opposition Parties for Budget Approval... Will Be a Reliable Government in the New Year"

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] President Moon Jae-in expressed his gratitude on the 2nd to the ruling and opposition party lawmakers for passing next year's budget bill within the legal deadline through bipartisan agreement, saying, "I deeply thank the lawmakers who gave hope to the people," and added, "In the new year, we will become a reliable government that protects the lives of the people and takes responsibility for the nation's future."


On the same day, President Moon wrote on social networking service (SNS), "For the first time in six years since 2014, the budget has passed the National Assembly in accordance with constitutional provisions, so it can be executed smoothly once the new year begins."


President Moon explained, "In these difficult times, national finances must fulfill the role of protecting the daily lives and lives of the people above all else," and added, "As a result of cooperation, the budget included 3 trillion won for urgent support to those suffering from COVID-19 and 900 billion won for purchasing COVID-19 vaccines."


He continued, "Next year's budget reflects the government's determination to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and leap forward as a leading country, focusing on the recovery of the people's economy and strengthening employment and social safety nets," and said, "Above all, I am glad that we can fully implement the 'Korean New Deal'."


President Moon also said, "The budget for solving housing problems has been increased," and added, "Support for infant childcare expenses and care support for single-parent and disabled-parent families will also be expanded." He further stated, "The budget for protecting essential workers' health will be increased, and by raising veterans' allowances and merit allowances, the government's responsibility toward national veterans will be strengthened," and added, "I believe the people's sentiments have been well reflected in the budget."
