The Korea Automobile Journalists Association Selects Ssangyong Rexton as Car of the Month for December

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] The Korea Automobile Journalists Association announced on the 2nd that Ssangyong Motor's All New Rexton has been selected as the Car of the Month for December this year.

The Car of the Year Selection Committee under the Korea Automobile Journalists Association evaluates new cars and facelift models released during the month from the 1st to the end of each month based on five categories: ▲exterior design ▲interior design ▲product practicality ▲safety and convenience features ▲marketability and purchase intention. The committee selects candidate vehicles through a comprehensive evaluation and then votes among the executives of the Car of the Year Selection Committee to choose the best vehicle.

Among the new cars released last month, Renault Samsung NEW QM6, Ssangyong All New Rexton, and Porsche Taycan (in brand alphabetical order) were nominated as candidates for the Car of the Month for December. After fierce competition, the All New Rexton was finally selected as the Car of the Month for December with a score of 19.3 points out of 25.

Ssangyong Motor All New Rexton

In this evaluation, a 1 to 5 point scale was applied for each category, and the All New Rexton recorded an average of 3.9 points (out of 5) across the five evaluation categories, receiving excellent scores overall. In particular, it scored 4.3 points in product practicality and 4 points in exterior design.

Ryu Jong-eun, chairman of the Car of the Year Selection Committee, stated, "The All New Rexton features a new design including the front end, adopts a 12.3-inch full digital cluster and a center console that enhances convenience, improving driving comfort. It applies a new powertrain considering power and fuel efficiency improvements, and its ample 3-ton towing capacity makes it suitable for enjoying yachts or camping."

The Korea Automobile Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month since May last year. This year, the following vehicles have been honored as Car of the Month: ▲Kia K5 (January 2020) ▲Genesis GV80 (February) ▲The New Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan (March) ▲Genesis G80 (April) ▲Hyundai All New Avante (May) ▲Renault Captur (June) ▲The New Audi A4 (July) ▲All New Peugeot 2008 SUV (August) ▲The New Mercedes-Benz GLB (September) ▲Hyundai The All New Tucson (October) ▲BMW New 5 Series (November).

The Automobile Journalists Association has 54 member media outlets including leading domestic daily newspapers, broadcasters, news agencies, online media, and automobile specialized magazines, with about 200 journalists affiliated with these member companies actively working.
