Binggrae Receives Presidential Citation for 'Promotion of Eco-Friendly Technology and Consumption' Government Award

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Binggrae announced on the 2nd that it received the Presidential Citation in the government awards for low-carbon lifestyle practice.

The 'Government Awards for Contribution to the Promotion of Eco-friendly Technology and Consumption' is hosted by the Ministry of Environment and recognizes those who have contributed to the development of eco-friendly technology, production, distribution, consumption, industry of eco-friendly products, and the spread of low-carbon lifestyle practices. Binggrae was recognized for its contribution to the spread of the national low-carbon lifestyle practice movement and the transition to a low-carbon society in the low-carbon lifestyle practice category, receiving the highest award in the category, the Presidential Citation.

To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, Binggrae improved the containers and packaging of its major products. For the first time in the industry, it mixed calcium carbonate into Yoplait cups to reduce plastic usage, and used 35% (about 1,890 tons) recycled plastic in the Banana Flavored Milk containers. Additionally, it reduced the size of the packaging for Kkotgerang snacks and improved the Dr. Capsule bottles from PET material to PS material, which is relatively lighter, reducing plastic usage by about 23.5 tons annually, while increasing recycling rates by using labels made of the same material. Among these, the application of calcium carbonate in Yoplait cups and the material improvement of Dr. Capsule bottles received high evaluations.

Furthermore, Binggrae conducted the 'Bunbastic (Banana Flavored Milk Stick that is easier to separate for recycling) campaign' for environmental protection. The 'Bunbastic campaign' is an eco-friendly campaign that upcycles empty Banana Flavored Milk bottles, which have been fully consumed, into tools that help easy separation for recycling, and provides consumers with separation and recycling guides. The Bunbastic campaign, conducted through online crowdfunding, was closed early in both the first and second rounds, and all proceeds were donated to NGO environmental protection organizations.

A Binggrae official said, “Going forward, Binggrae will continue to lead sustainable green growth through the development and application of carbon reduction technologies as well as low-carbon practice campaigns.”
