[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 2nd that 100 excellent small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) and small business products to be sold at the Christmas Market, held for nine days from the 19th to the 27th of this month, were finally selected through online public participation.
A total of 1,063 SME and small business products were submitted through the contest, and among them, 200 were selected through expert evaluations (private MDs, PDs) and proceeded to the online public selection process.
The product categories recruited included snacks, party supplies, general food, daily and kitchen goods, clothing, and accessories.
During the online public participation selection process held for a week from the 24th to the 30th of last month, 44,988 votes and 41,764 comments were submitted.
The most popular product was the “Firefighter Turnout Gear Upcycling Support Bracelet” (clothing and accessories). It is an upcycled bracelet made from turnout gear directly worn by firefighters, receiving 1,609 votes and 1,435 comments, attracting great consumer interest.
The next most popular product was the “Hanwoo Value Set” (general food), which received 1,282 votes and 1,215 comments, gaining popularity.
The third most popular product was the “Christmas Auto Waterball Music Box” (party supplies). It is an interior decoration that evokes the warm atmosphere of Christmas, chosen by 1,166 people, and is expected to decorate the Christmas Market product booths.
In addition, snacks such as oat milk raw chocolate and Julie cookies, which match the Christmas theme, showed high popularity and were selected as final products. Many party supplies such as mini trees and solar LED lights were also included.
In the daily and kitchen goods category, products essential for the winter Christmas season, such as camping table set folding boxes, Yeolgom foot warmers, and wireless humidifiers, attracted attention. In the clothing and accessories category, children’s Christmas hoodies and fox mufflers were popular.
Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said, “The products selected through the public participation process are all excellent SME and small business products that will show sufficient competitiveness in the online market.” She added, “Through the Christmas Market, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will actively support small business owners who have suffered difficulties due to COVID-19 this year to enter and grow in online sales channels such as live commerce, leading the digitalization of small businesses.”
