[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The Buk-gu District Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 2nd that it has designated the period until the 15th as the wildfire caution period and is implementing a ‘Comprehensive Wildfire Prevention Plan’ to minimize wildfire damage.
This comprehensive wildfire prevention plan was prepared to ensure thorough wildfire prevention through pre-inspections and promotional activities, as the risk of wildfires increases due to the many clear and dry days in autumn and winter.
Buk-gu plans to intensively manage wildfire-prone areas through the operation of the Comprehensive Wildfire Prevention Headquarters, patrol task forces, specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams, and cooperation with related organizations.
First, during the wildfire caution period, a comprehensive headquarters composed of 25 members will be operated to inspect wildfire suppression equipment, promptly report wildfire occurrences, maintain on-site suppression command systems, and request cooperation from related organizations.
Three patrol task forces and 21 specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel will be concentrated in key wildfire management areas to conduct wildfire monitoring, wildfire prevention promotion, equipment management, and initial suppression tasks such as rapid reporting.
Related organizations such as the police, fire stations, and military units will maintain an emergency contact network at all times to sustain an efficient wildfire prevention system.
Additionally, wildfire caution campaigns will be held at hiking trail entrances and key wildfire management areas, and various media such as the district website, placards, and the wildfire reporting app (Smart Forest Disaster) will be used to actively encourage resident participation in wildfire prevention promotion and reporting.
District Mayor Moon In said, “Through proactive prevention activities and active promotion, we will cherish the safety of residents and preserve the region’s forest resources.”
