Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon Launches Emergency COVID-19 Disinfection at Senior Welfare Facilities Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, is conducting disinfection to prevent COVID-19 by visiting Haegong Senior Welfare Center and Gokgyo Senior Citizens' Center on November 30.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Anxiety is growing due to the resurgence of COVID-19.

Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is making every effort to respond to COVID-19 by conducting emergency disinfection in senior welfare facilities.

On the 30th of last month, Gangdong-gu, together with Hannuri Disinfection Team, a social enterprise specializing in disinfection, visited the Gangdong-gu public ‘Haegong Senior Welfare Center’ and ‘Gokgyo Senior Citizens' Center’ to carry out emergency facility disinfection, comfort the seniors using the facilities, and urge compliance with disinfection guidelines to alleviate their anxiety.

This disinfection is an emergency measure to protect the seniors of Gangdong-gu from the resurgence of COVID-19, in line with the elevation of social distancing levels and Seoul-style strengthened quarantine measures.

In particular, considering that the facilities are used by seniors, eco-friendly disinfectants certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety are used, and in addition to disinfecting the entire indoor space, focused disinfection of frequently touched areas such as door handles is also conducted.

The district is conducting disinfection for 174 senior welfare facilities with partial support from the social contribution project of the social enterprise Hannuri.

Furthermore, Gangdong-gu is strictly controlling the entry of outsiders to facilities such as nursing homes and elder care homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, and continuously conducting guidance and inspections on compliance with disinfection rules at senior welfare facilities such as senior citizens' centers.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “We will promote thorough disinfection to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community and protect the health and safety of seniors,” and urged, “We hope seniors refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities and strictly follow disinfection guidelines such as social distancing and wearing masks.”
