[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus announced on the 2nd that its U+ Budget Phone "Hope Windmill Donation Plan," launched last October, surpassed 2,000 subscribers just 57 days after its release.

By using this plan, 10% of the monthly fixed fee for one year after subscription is automatically donated to the Korean Red Cross to be used for disaster relief activities and support projects for vulnerable groups. Subscribers can receive donation receipts for one year and claim year-end tax deductions. The fee is 33,000 KRW per month, and it includes 11GB of data, voice calls, and text messages as basic services.

LG Uplus stated, "Unlike other budget phone plans where 20-40-year-olds account for 80%, the Hope Windmill Donation Plan has subscribers evenly distributed from their 10s to 60s," adding, "It seems that the advantage of being able to enjoy the affordable benefits of budget phones while also donating has attracted customers' attention."

Yoon Jong-ok, head of the Social Cooperation Team at the Korean Red Cross, said, "The number of Hope Windmill plan subscribers is increasing more as the year-end approaches," and added, "We are pleased that the donation plan helps spread the culture of giving and promotes budget phone usage."

The U+ Budget Phone providers selling the Hope Windmill Donation Plan include nine companies: Medialog, LG HelloVision, Keunsaram, S1, Merchand Korea, Inscombi, Unicoms, Code Mobile, and YL Land. Customers wishing to subscribe can apply on the websites of these nine providers until the end of this month.
