[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgi Kim] American Hollywood actor Ellen Page (33) has come out as transgender.

On the 1st (local time), Page wrote on her Facebook, "I want to share with you that I am transgender," adding, "Please use he/they pronouns when referring to me. And from now on, my name is Elliot Page."

She continued, "I am very happy right now. I cannot express how wonderful it is to love myself. I am endlessly inspired by the transgender community," and said, "The closer I hold onto myself and fully embrace who I am, the bigger my heart grows."

She added, "Thank you for your continuous efforts to make the world a more inclusive and compassionate place," and "I will continue to work towards a more loving and equal society."

She pointed out, "Discrimination against transgender people is widespread, cunning, and cruel, leading to terrible consequences. In 2020 alone, at least 40 transgender people were murdered, the majority of whom were Black and Latinx transgender women."

Page warned, "The hatred and violent gaze toward transgender people is enough. You are hurting people," and said, "We will not remain silent about your attacks."

Meanwhile, Page was born in 1987 and debuted in the 1997 film Fit Pony. Later, in 2007, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as a teenage single mother in Juno, which portrayed the story of an unwanted pregnancy.

Page came out as gay in 2014 and married choreographer and dancer Emma Portner, her same-sex partner, in 2018.
