Value Beyond the Real... 'Fake Fur' Is the Trend This Winter Too

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Fluffy and cozy fake fur has become an essential material that everyone looks for when winter comes. Recently, amid consumer trends emphasizing environmental and ethical awareness, fake fur has become the mainstream, surpassing real fur by gaining recognition for its practicality, including reasonable prices and ease of care.

This year, as soft materials that provide a sense of stability and comfortable casual wear gain more attention, fake fur outerwear that is more stylish than padding and more comfortable than coats has reached the peak of the trend.

Fake fur mainly features warm neutral colors such as beige and ivory, but point colors like blue, green, and pink, as well as unique patterns like leopard and Fair Isle, add fun to the designs.

For outerwear, a variety of lengths including long, half, and short are available, and styles range from athletic zip-ups to jackets characterized by collars and outer pockets, broadening the selection according to body shape and preference.

Beyond outerwear, fake fur is also widely applied to inners such as vests, sweatshirts, and dresses, as well as accessories like bags, hats, and boots.

Kuho, Samsung C&T Fashion Division’s minimal contemporary brand, applied unique styles such as blue color and leopard patterns to fake fur this season.

They released a long jumper made of French premium fake fur in a calm blue color. It boasts a rare hue and a light, soft texture, featuring a shirt silhouette with front pockets.

They also introduced their signature canvas bucket bag for the first time in a sensuous leopard pattern fake fur material, which has already gone into reorder due to strong consumer response.

Kuho Plus, a minimal young contemporary brand, proposed winter styling with a soft and warm mood by using fake fur as a main material.

This year, in addition to the signature short teddy bear coat that was very popular last year, they newly introduced a teddy bear coat with a longer length for enhanced warmth, a striking yet lively leopard fake fur jumper, a shearling sweatshirt with a zipper strap detail on the back, and a brown teddy bear mini bag.

SPA brand Eight Seconds recently attracted attention by releasing a stylish fake fur outerwear lookbook. They showcased a vintage yet elegant look by pairing a short-length high-neck shearling jumper with a flower-patterned long dress.

Additionally, they launched more eco-friendly knit zip-up cardigans made with boucle material recycled from waste PET bottles, a mustang long coat that falls below the knees, and corduroy jumpers accented with fake fur collars.

Kim Hyunjung, Kuho’s design director, said, “Non-animal fake fur has now established itself as an essential material for the winter season and is evolving into increasingly diverse styles. Especially this year, we hope people will challenge styling with uniquely charming fake fur items like blue colors or leopard patterns to bring vitality to their mundane daily lives.”

Fake fur items proposed by Samsung C&T Fashion Division can be found at the integrated online mall SSF Shop and at Kuho and Eight Seconds stores nationwide.
