[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] GS Retail's convenience store GS25 announced on the 2nd that it held an 'Ontact Relay Tteokguk Sharing Donation Ceremony' through a video system at the GS Tower in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
At the online donation ceremony, GS Retail Vice Chairman and CEO Heo Yeon-su, President Jo Yoon-sung, representatives from Caritas Bangbae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, GS Retail's official volunteer group 'GS Nanumi' regional base teams, and store owners participated.
The relay tteokguk sharing will be conducted over the next month through GS Retail's official volunteer group GS Nanumi. Among the approximately 70 GS Nanumi nationwide, 30 regional base volunteer teams representing GS25's 30th anniversary were selected, and each volunteer team will share 300 servings, totaling 9,000 servings of tteokguk.
The sharing targets are local welfare centers and orphanages nationwide, including Seoul, Suwon-si in Gyeonggi-do, Incheon Metropolitan City, Daegu Metropolitan City, Changwon-si in Gyeongsangnam-do, Wonju-si in Gangwon-do, and Jeonju-si in Jeollabuk-do.
This year's sharing activities will be conducted by delivering the meal kit 'Simply Cook Tteokguk Set' with a minimal number of people due to the difficulty of face-to-face contact caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and the escalation of social distancing.
GS25 plans to continue efforts to establish this as a virtuous cycle model of social contribution in the convenience store industry, rather than a simple one-time event.
Kim Si-yeon, GS Retail's social contribution manager, said, "In a situation experiencing an unprecedented crisis, we held this relay sharing to add a small sincerity and warm touch to neighbors in the local community," and added, "We will continue sharing activities that can serve as a 'Give and Share' platform for sharing together in daily life based on GS Retail's offline platform of about 15,000 stores nationwide."
