[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] Chungju City issued an apology after controversy arose over inappropriate remarks made toward high school students in a video on its official YouTube channel. The video has since been deleted.

On the 24th of last month, a video titled "Banmo? Jamanchu? / Do High School Students These Days Know Yoo Seung-jun? / New Slang vs Latte Language Battle" was posted on Chungju City's official YouTube channel.

In the video, Officer Kim Seon-tae was playing a new slang guessing game with high school students. When a student introduced themselves as "1st year Go OO," Kim asked, "Which Go family?" When the student replied, "Jeju Go family," Kim asked again, "By any chance, Yoo Jeong?" referring to Go Yoo-jeong, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the second trial for murdering her ex-husband, mutilating his body, and abandoning it.

Additionally, in the quiz about the meaning of the new slang term 'Banmo (banmal mode),' Kim said, "Ban Ki-moon's mother." When guessing 'Jamanchu (seeking natural encounters),' he said, "I thought of it, but I can't bring myself to say it," followed by remarks such as "In my view, it seems like self-satisfaction. It's ugly," and then answered, "Self-satisfaction Choo Mi-ae."

After netizens criticized the remarks with comments like "The Go Yoo-jeong joke crossed the line" and "Why mention a criminal's name to students?" the YouTube channel posted an apology on the 1st, stating, "The excessive expressions mentioned during the video production process with the students were undeniably wrong actions. We will ensure that such incidents do not happen again."

They continued, "We have first apologized to the students featured in the video. We also sincerely apologize once again to viewers who felt uncomfortable. We will take time to reflect for the time being."
