[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Winia Dimchae announced on the 2nd that it will voluntarily collect parts of old kimchi refrigerators 'Dimchae' that are over 15 years old. The company will proceed with the collection in consultation with the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to prevent fires in old kimchi refrigerators.
The collection and replacement targets are kimchi refrigerators 'Dimchae' produced and sold before September 2005, featuring a front control display and a mechanical room located at the lower rear, with a top-opening (lid-type) structure.
The company judged that fire could occur due to tracking or short circuits caused by deterioration of parts used for a long time and prolonged exposure to moisture and dust, and will collect and replace the suspected parts that could cause fire for safe use of Dimchae.
Winia Dimchae will provide machine room cleaning and safety inspection, full free replacement of aged parts, and compensation sales with discount benefits if customers wish to purchase new products as part of this service measure.
Collection and replacement will be carried out year-round, and customers can apply and receive guidance through the customer consultation center. Separate happy calls and LMS messages will be sent to the relevant customers, and posters will be posted on the website, nationwide specialty stores, and service centers to actively promote the campaign.
In cooperation with related organizations such as the City Gas Association, safety inspectors visiting homes will actively identify consumers using the company's old kimchi refrigerators and promote collection and replacement. Plans to improve the collection implementation rate will also be actively considered.
A Winia Dimchae official said, "This voluntary collection and replacement was carried out to prevent safety accidents that may occur in kimchi refrigerators used for a long time in advance and to fulfill our responsibility as a manufacturer."
