'Siblings' Summer Night' Triumphs at International Film Festivals


Director Yoon Dan-bi's film Summer Night of Siblings added trophies from five overseas film festivals throughout November.


The production company Onu Film announced on the 1st that the film received the highest honor, the Osler Best Film Award, at the 24th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, which concluded on the 19th of last month. It also won the New Talent Award, given to a notable young director, at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. This award was previously won by director Kim Bora for House of Hummingbird last year. Additionally, Summer Night of Siblings earned the Best Film Award selected by the International Federation of Film Critics at the Torino Film Festival in Italy, the Jury Special Prize at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina, and the Best Film Award at the Nantes Three Continents Festival in France.


Released in August, the film is a family drama focusing on siblings Okju and Dongju, who spend their summer vacation with their father in their grandfather's old Western-style house. Starting with winning four awards at last year's Busan International Film Festival, it has been recognized as Korea's film of the year by receiving the Bright Future Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the New Choice Award at the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Grand Prize at the Muju Mountain Film Festival, and the Best Film Award at the New York Asian Film Festival.
