[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The "vaccine for the heart," the sooner it is used, the more effective it is... On the morning of the 1st at 10 a.m., Busan's Gijang-gun began accepting online applications for the "2nd Gijang-type Disaster Basic Income" to support local residents facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
Gijang-gun, which in March was the first nationwide to spend 16.7 billion KRW to provide 100,000 KRW per person to approximately 167,000 residents as Gijang-type Disaster Basic Income, has secured a budget of 17.4 billion KRW this time to pay 100,000 KRW in cash to about 173,000 residents.
The payment targets all residents registered in Gijang-gun from November 16th to the application date, including marriage immigrants, permanent residents, and overseas Koreans.
To avoid congestion caused by a flood of applicants at once, Gijang-gun is accepting online applications using a five-day rotation system.
If the last digit of the head of household's birth year is ▲'1, 6', the application day is Monday, ▲'2, 7' Tuesday, ▲'3, 8' Wednesday, ▲'4, 9' Thursday, and ▲'5, 0' Friday. On weekends, anyone can apply regardless of the day. The five-day rotation system will be lifted starting from the 14th.
Applications for the disaster basic income can be made via PC or smartphone. The head of household and household members registered in the resident registration can access the Gijang-gun official website or the Gijang-type Disaster Basic Income site to apply.
Applicants enter the head of household's name, date of birth, address, and undergo head of household verification, followed by a second step of identity verification via mobile phone. Then, they can apply for disaster basic income for all household members living together according to the resident registration at once.
The application form is simple to complete. The disaster basic income will be deposited in cash into the application account within two weeks after application submission.
Elderly people who have difficulty applying online can apply in person at their local eup/myeon administrative welfare center starting December 14th.
In-person applications also follow the five-day rotation system, so applicants should visit on the day corresponding to the last digit of the head of household's birth year, bringing their resident registration card (or foreigner registration card, permanent resident card) and a copy of their bankbook.
Both online and in-person applications can be submitted until January 29th of next year.
Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, said, "From infants to the elderly, all Gijang residents are facing the disaster risk of COVID-19. With a desperate desire to save local residents whose livelihoods are bleak due to COVID-19, we have spared no effort, economized, and mobilized all resources to prepare the budget."
The mayor added, "I hope this becomes a strong vaccine for the hearts of all local residents."
