Gwangju Dong-gu, Recruiting Participants for Next Year's Senior Job and Social Activity Support Program


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 1st that it is recruiting participants for the 2021 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project to provide social participation opportunities and income support for local elderly citizens.


The number of recruits and eligibility by type of senior job are ▲ Public Interest Type: 2,810 people (basic pension recipients) ▲ Market Type: 115 people (aged 60 or older, suitable for business characteristics) ▲ Social Service Type: 120 people (aged 65 or older, suitable for business characteristics) ▲ Employment Referral Type: 140 people (aged 60 or older, suitable for business characteristics), each selected according to the selection criteria table.


First, the ‘Public Interest Activity Type’ is responsible for activities such as visiting vulnerable elderly households to check on their well-being and providing companionship through the ‘No-No Care’ program, operating urban vegetable gardens, and promoting orderliness in subway usage.


The ‘Social Service Type’ involves supporting meal services, educational support, environmental maintenance at local children’s centers and childcare facilities, and conducting gas information checks in households within the district.


The ‘Market Type’ performs activities such as cleaning buildings and facilities, delivering parcels in apartment complexes, and maintaining school environments.


Participant working hours and activity fees depend on working conditions: Public Interest Activities require at least 30 hours per month with a monthly payment of 270,000 KRW; Social Service Type requires at least 60 hours per month with a monthly payment of 712,000 KRW; Market Type and Employment Referral Type are determined by labor contracts and the project team’s internal regulations, complying with minimum wage standards.


However, recipients of livelihood benefits, workplace health insurance subscribers, and long-term care grade assessors (grades 1 to 5, cognitive support grade) cannot participate in two or more projects promoted by government ministries and local governments.


Applications for participation are open until the 11th. Applicants must bring identification such as a resident registration card and visit the administrative welfare center of their district or the project implementing agency to apply in person. Applications can also be submitted online through ‘Bokjiro’ and ‘Happiness e-um’ platforms, but online applicants must additionally complete a participation application form.


Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “In a situation where the economy has been severely contracted due to COVID-19, we will support the elderly to live active and healthy lives through the senior job project.” He added, “We will continue to expand more senior jobs and prepare various senior welfare projects so that elderly citizens can live happily.”
