[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] A current prosecutor has demanded the resignation of Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae. This is the first time a resignation demand for Minister Chu has emerged within the prosecution, drawing attention to whether the controversy over alleged illegalities during the inspection process will now expand to calls for her resignation.

According to the legal community on the 1st, Prosecutor Jang Jin-young of the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office posted a message on the internal prosecution communication network saying, "Minister Chu Mi-ae, please resign voluntarily."

Prosecutor Jang stated, "The Minister no longer has the qualification or ability to genuinely promote prosecutorial reform, so please stop distorting or misleading the public about the true meaning of prosecutorial reform and voluntarily resign from your position for the sake of genuine reform."

In particular, Prosecutor Jang pointed out, "Although the Minister has the duty to inform the public of the true meaning of prosecutorial reform, she abused her authority by covering up investigations unfavorable to the administration and pushing prosecutorial deterioration under the guise of democratic control to seize control of the prosecution, deceiving the public into believing this was genuine reform."

He continued, "As the highest head of the Ministry of Justice, she should uphold the rule of law more than anyone else, but she ignored procedures and legal principles, hastily amended inspection regulations, fabricated and disguised misconduct facts, and carried out unlawful and unjust suspension and disciplinary requests against the Prosecutor General, thereby disregarding the rule of law," he criticized.

Additionally, Prosecutor Jang accused Minister Chu of abusing her authority by neglecting the completion of the criminal justice system, sowing discord among prosecution members, and violating the obligation of political neutrality.

Meanwhile, the Inspection Committee, which will examine whether Minister Chu's disciplinary request and suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon were appropriate, held an extraordinary meeting at 10 a.m. at the Ministry of Justice Gwacheon Government Complex. The meeting was convened at the request of external inspection committee members, including Chairman Kang Dong-beom.
