[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City and the World Gas Congress Organizing Committee announced on the 1st that, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the World Gas Congress originally scheduled for June next year has been postponed by one year and will be held in May 2022.
Daegu City, which had expected to revitalize the local economy by hosting the largest-ever event, had continuously requested the Organizing Committee and the International Gas Union to postpone the congress by one year due to the unresolved COVID-19 situation.
Started in 1931, the World Gas Congress is the largest energy sector event with a 90-year tradition held every three years. The 2021 Daegu Congress was expected to host about 12,000 participants from over 90 countries.
Daegu City is proceeding with the construction of the EXCO 2nd Exhibition Hall as planned for this event, aiming to complete it by February next year, and has been accumulating experience and know-how by holding various exhibitions.
Lee Hyun-mo, head of the Daegu City World Gas Congress Support Group, said, "With the event postponed by one year, it can be held under normal circumstances. In 2022, we expect the event to be larger than anticipated due to the pent-up marketing demand from global companies suppressed by COVID-19."
