[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Woowa Brothers, the operator of 'Baedal Minjok,' is partnering with the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement to engage in robot technology standardization and robot-related policy research.
Woowa Brothers (CEO Kim Beom-jun) announced on the 1st that it signed a 'Mutual Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Robot Standardization' with the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (President Moon Jeon-il). The Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement is an organization that leads the development of technical standards and policies for service robots to revitalize the domestic robot industry and improve regulations. Through this agreement, Woowa Brothers will participate in establishing standards and guidelines related to delivery and serving robot technologies with the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement. The technological competitiveness and operational stability of serving robots such as 'Dilly Plate,' delivery robots 'Dilly Tower,' and 'Dilly Drive,' operated by Baedal Minjok, are expected to improve through this agreement.
Woowa Brothers plans to cooperate in the standardization of delivery robot technology and regulatory improvements by participating in driving and safety tests conducted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement using its serving and delivery robots. The Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement will provide Woowa Brothers with robot test results and operational data to be utilized for future service advancement and stabilization.
Both parties will also conduct joint research on the standardization of interworking technology between elevators and robots, which is crucial for integrated indoor and outdoor delivery robot operations. This initiative aims to resolve technical difficulties faced by robot manufacturers and operators when linking robots to elevators of different models.
An evaluation by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement is also planned for 'Dilly Drive,' a delivery robot currently being piloted by Woowa Brothers in Gwanggyo, Gyeonggi Province. Woowa Brothers explained that if the safety of Dilly Drive, which has passed the regulatory sandbox, is verified through this evaluation, the possibility of commercialization could be accelerated.
Moon Jeon-il, President of the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, said, "Standardization in the robot field is an important catalyst that transforms the paradigm of industrial development," adding, "Starting with this cooperation with Woowa Brothers, we will actively collaborate with the service robot industry to continuously contribute to creating domestic and international service robot markets."
Kim Beom-jun, CEO of Woowa Brothers, emphasized, "Through this collaboration, we will further strengthen Baemin's robot delivery service technology and contribute to technology policy and regulatory improvements for the activation of the industry," adding, "Woowa Brothers will continue to strive to advance delivery robot technology and revitalize the delivery and robot service industry ecosystem."
