[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Six out of ten citizens agree on the necessity of a parliamentary investigation into Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to Realmeter, commissioned by YTN's 'The News,' a survey conducted on the 30th of last month regarding the need for a parliamentary investigation into Minister Choo and Prosecutor General Yoon showed that 59.3% responded "necessary," while 33.4% responded "not necessary," as announced on the 1st. Those who answered "not sure" accounted for 7.3%.
By region, the majority in all areas responded that the investigation is "necessary." In Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, 66.0% said "necessary" versus 28.5% "not necessary," and in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, 65.7% said "necessary" versus 28.7% "not necessary," both showing over 60% in favor. This was followed by Incheon and Gyeonggi (59.9% vs. 33.3%), Seoul (58.2% vs. 35.0%), Daegu and Gyeongbuk (57.5% vs. 33.2%), and Gwangju and Jeolla (50.7% vs. 38.5%) in descending order of "necessary" responses.
By age group, the majority also agreed on the necessity. The highest percentage was among those in their 20s (67.2% "necessary" vs. 28.9% "not necessary"), followed by those in their 30s (65.4% vs. 31.9%), 60s (58.8% vs. 32.7%), 50s (57.0% vs. 37.1%), 70 and older (57.0% vs. 22.2%), and 40s (51.1% vs. 42.9%).
By ideological inclination, the conservative group overwhelmingly responded "necessary" at 70.3%. Among progressives, 46.9% said "necessary" and 43.5% said "not necessary," showing a close margin within the error range (±4.4 percentage points). The centrist group showed 62.3% in favor of the investigation.
Responses also varied by political party support. Among supporters of the People Power Party, 69.5% saw the investigation as necessary, and 65.5% of non-affiliated respondents agreed. However, among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea, 47.0% said it was necessary, while 44.4% said it was not.
This survey contacted 7,486 adults nationwide aged 18 and over, with a final 500 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a 6.7% response rate. The sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
