[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] The premium Korean food brand ‘Yangban’ has strengthened its competitiveness in the domestic HMR (Home Meal Replacement) market by launching side dish HMR products following its ambient porridge and soups/stews.
Dongwon F&B announced on the 1st that it has released four types of ‘Yangban Jangjorim’ side dish HMR products made with 35 years of traditional Korean culinary expertise. Yangban plans to continuously expand its side dish HMR lineup to target the growing demand for home dining.
Yangban Jangjorim is a side dish HMR product that richly contains natural ingredients such as octopus, beef, and pork, following the Yangban brand philosophy that “the ingredients must be alive for the taste to come alive.” The various ingredients used in the jangjorim are included as large whole pieces to enhance both flavor and texture.
Additionally, Dongwon F&B’s unique HMR manufacturing know-how is applied through a high-temperature processing method that preserves the chewy texture of the natural ingredients. This high-temperature process shortens the heat treatment time of the contents, preventing the texture from becoming soggy due to prolonged heat exposure, thereby maintaining the original taste and texture of the ingredients. Furthermore, depending on the ingredient, a special soy sauce made with vegetable broth, ginger, garlic, and other seasonings is used to simmer the dish, making it perfect as a side dish or mixed with rice.
The container-type Yangban Jangjorim lineup consists of four varieties: ‘Whole Octopus Jangjorim,’ ‘Beef Jangjorim,’ ‘Pork Jangjorim,’ and ‘Quail Egg Jangjorim.’ Each of the four types, designed for 2 to 3 servings, comes in a dedicated container that can be heated directly in the microwave without needing to transfer the contents, offering convenience.
A Dongwon F&B official said, “As ‘Convenience Premium’?pursuing both convenience and premium quality?becomes a new trend, home meal replacements are gradually diversifying, segmenting, and becoming more premium. Based on Yangban’s 35 years of traditional Korean culinary expertise, we will flexibly respond to the rapidly changing HMR trends and introduce various new products that meet consumer needs.”
All four container-type Yangban Jangjorim products weigh 270g each. The prices are 4,980 KRW for Yangban Whole Octopus Jangjorim and Yangban Beef Jangjorim, and 3,980 KRW for Yangban Pork Jangjorim and Yangban Quail Egg Jangjorim.
