[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Innotek announced on the 1st that it has been selected as a ‘Community Contribution Recognized Company’ by the Ministry of Health and Welfare this year.

The ‘Community Contribution Recognition System’ is a program in which the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare acknowledge the contributions of companies and institutions that have consistently engaged in social contribution activities. LG Innotek stated that its Gumi and Gwangju plants have actively promoted activities aimed at the self-reliance of marginalized groups based on beneficiary focus, sustainability, and voluntary participation of employees in practicing corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The Gumi plant supports sports experiences and orchestra activities linked with local children’s centers for youth. It has also actively carried out activities such as briquette and side dish sharing for neighbors in need including the disabled, multicultural families, and elderly living alone, as well as maintaining one company-one stream, and improving village environments.

The Gumi plant notably received the ‘Community Contribution Minister of Health and Welfare Award.’ Since 2013, it has provided cultural experience and learning opportunities to 1,500 children in the Gumi area and delivered kimchi and other items to 500 marginalized neighbors, minimizing welfare blind spots, which earned high praise. It was also recognized for contributing to rural revitalization and intergenerational exchange by partnering with Cheongsan 2-ri, Gucheon-myeon, Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, supporting maintenance of village public facilities and helping with farm work.

The Gwangju plant is also contributing to revitalizing the local economy and realizing a healthy and happy life for residents. Since 2007, the Gwangju plant has formed a one company-one village sisterhood with 27 villages in Goseo-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, engaging in activities such as scholarship support for low-income families, crop harvesting, and house repair assistance. It has consistently supported living environment improvements and daily necessities in cooperation with welfare institutions for the disabled and elderly.

LG Innotek said, "Last year, we established a CSR team and have strengthened activities to enhance the value of key stakeholders such as local communities and partner companies," adding, "We will continue various programs for coexistence with the local community in the future."
