"Who Told the Government to Build Apartments Directly?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min criticized President Moon Jae-in on the 30th for emphasizing the “attitude of public officials who serve the interests of the community rather than those of a group,” saying, “President Moon should clearly state his own thoughts as the ultimate person responsible for all these incidents, instead of using evasive and hypocritical rhetoric to dodge the issue.” He added, “He must face the fact that he cannot continue to cowardly avoid responsibility.”
On the same day, Yoo wrote on Facebook, “The president is completely reversing the meaning of group and community,” and said, “Why does he not realize that the president, the Minister of Justice, and the Democratic Party, who abuse power to prevent investigations into their own illegal acts and corruption, are the ones who betray the interests of the community and serve only their own group’s interests?”
Yoo pointed out, “It is precisely in the community’s interest for the prosecution to thoroughly investigate the Ulsan mayoral election fraud, the economic feasibility manipulation of the Wolseong Unit 1 nuclear reactor, and the Lime and Optimus scandals,” adding, “When those in power obstruct such investigations, they are serving the interests of their power group, not the community.”
Regarding Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi’s remark, “If apartments were bread, I would stay up all night to make them,” Yoo sharply criticized, “This thoroughly incompetent government has failed in apartment policy, yet now refuses to admit its policy failures and instead blames innocent apartments for not being bread, which only upsets the public further.”
Yoo said, “Who told the government to directly build apartments? The government is not a construction company. The government is not the place that builds apartments but the place that makes apartment policies,” adding, “Unless it is a communist country, apartments are built by suppliers in the market. In a market economy, the government only directly intervenes in apartment construction to address housing welfare for low-income groups who cannot afford rent.”
Yoo stated, “The Moon Jae-in administration did make apartment policies ? as many as 24 times over three and a half years,” but “these policies failed, causing insane housing prices, a crazy rental crisis, and cutting off the ladder to home ownership.”
Yoo questioned, “Did they say such things without implementing any apartment supply policies? Are they only now realizing that apartments cannot be built in a day?” He added, “This government’s apartment policy is all about ‘public’ whenever they open their mouths. In the minds of these government people, apartments are public, meaning built by the government. That’s why such nonsense like Marie ‘Pain’ Antoinette comes out.”
