[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Domestic clusters of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continue across the country on the 30th.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 291 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on this day.
This is 37 fewer than the 328 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
With time remaining until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0:00 on December 1 is expected to increase to around 400.
Among the 291 cases in the interim tally by city and province, 203 were in the metropolitan area and 88 were in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, Seoul reported 128 cases, Gyeonggi 63, Chungbuk 25, Gwangju 15, Incheon 12, Busan 11, Gyeongnam 10, Chungnam 8, Gyeongbuk and Gangwon 6 each, Jeonbuk 3, Daegu 2, and Ulsan and Daejeon 1 each.
No additional confirmed cases were reported by 6 p.m. in Sejong, Jeonnam, and Jeju.
From the 26th for five consecutive days, the daily new confirmed cases were 581 → 555 → 503 → 450 → 438, showing three consecutive days in the 500s before dropping to the 400s.
Among these, the daily locally transmitted cases were 552 → 525 → 486 → 413 → 414.
Looking at the statistics for the recent week (November 24?30), the average daily new confirmed cases were 465.4. The average daily locally transmitted cases were 438.7, placing the situation within the nationwide social distancing level 2.5 range (400?500 or more, or rapid increase such as doubling).
While about 70% of confirmed cases are in the metropolitan area, non-metropolitan cases have also remained in the 100s for seven consecutive days since the 24th (103 → 108 → 151 → 188 → 163 → 150 → 153).
