Chonnam National University 2021 Early Admission, Conducted via Real-Time Video Interview

Chonnam National University 2021 Early Admission, Conducted via Real-Time Video Interview

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University will conduct interviews for next year’s freshman early admission through real-time video conferencing.

On the 30th, Chonnam National University announced that, judging the ongoing rapid and dangerous spread of COVID-19 community infections since early this month, it will switch all applicants’ interviews for the 2021 academic year early admission to real-time video interviews.

Accordingly, applicants must prepare electronic devices such as a laptop or desktop computer equipped with a camera, earphones, and microphone capable of video conferencing, connect to ZOOM, enter the pre-notified interview room ID, and enter the video interview room on the interview day.

The interviews start at 9 a.m. for the morning session and 2 p.m. for the afternoon session, but considering identity verification and other preparation procedures, it is stable to enter at least 40 minutes in advance.

Applicants should be especially careful not to miss the start time, as failure to enter by 10 minutes before the start will be treated as absence.

For quick identity verification, applicants should prepare their admission ticket and identification in advance. Acceptable IDs include resident registration card, driver’s license, passport, student ID, and youth ID.

To prevent fraudulent acts such as proxy attendance, the identity verification process will be recorded and preserved for 10 years.

After identity verification, the applicant’s name will be changed to an interview number, and the interview will be conducted as a blind video interview where interviewers cannot see any personal information such as the applicant’s name, application number, or school.

During the interview, applicants should look directly at the camera and answer clearly to avoid suspicion of cheating.

If an applicant leaves the interview room before the interview ends, it may be treated as absence, so caution is required.

If the connection is lost due to network instability during the interview, the university will contact the applicant individually up to three times within one hour from that time to provide a chance to reconnect; however, if contact is not made, the applicant will not be able to participate in the interview.

Chonnam National University will provide detailed instructions on how to conduct the real-time video interview on the undergraduate admissions website at 4 p.m. on the 2nd of next month.

Applicants should check the interview date and time, online interview room (ZOOM ID), and other details on the website and prepare accordingly.

To prevent confusion in the first implementation of the online interview method, the university plans to hold ‘online interview preliminary meetings’ separately for the student record screening track and the comprehensive student record screening track so that applicants can experience the interview process in advance.

Additionally, for applicants in remote island and mountainous areas with unstable network conditions or difficulty in preparing electronic devices, the university will provide a separate interview room on campus and conduct the real-time video interview in the same manner.

For applicants with special education needs, the university will identify individual requirements in advance and provide accommodations to ensure a comfortable real-time video interview.

Applicants for the early employment contract departments will have face-to-face interviews at the Yeosu campus. The interview location and time can be confirmed on the Chonnam National University undergraduate admissions website on the 2nd of next month, and the Smart Plant Contract Department will provide individual guidance to the relevant students.

Applicants wishing to take the real-time video interview at Chonnam National University must submit an application to the admissions office by 4 p.m. on the 7th of next month.

However, the Departments of Fine Arts, Korean Traditional Music, and Music Education, which conduct practical/performance screening in early admission, will hold face-to-face interviews at Chonnam National University on the 15th of next month as originally announced in the recruitment guidelines.

Details on the practical exam times and locations by department and major will be available on the website from 4 p.m. on the 8th of next month.
