[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 30th that it will hold a ‘Child-Friendly City Slogan Contest’ to build consensus with citizens on creating a child-friendly city.
A ‘UNICEF child-friendly city’ is a city where all children under the age of 18 enjoy full rights and live, aiming to realize the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child within the local government system.
This contest was prepared to draw out a core message that encapsulates the values and vision of a child-friendly city, thereby generating local community interest and policy consensus.
The application period and eligibility are open to anyone without regional or age restrictions until the 4th of next month. Entries should be phrases within 20 characters that symbolize the child-friendly city or present its future vision (Korean, foreign languages, and symbols are allowed).
Only one submission per person is allowed, and entries can be submitted by mail or email.
The city plans to select the final winners through a two-step evaluation process: the first internal screening next month, followed by a second screening including Naju City’s Child Rights Ombudsperson and child preference evaluations.
Prizes include 500,000 KRW for the grand prize (1 person), 300,000 KRW for excellence (1 person), and encouragement prizes for two people, awarded as Naju Love gift certificates.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “We plan to discover slogans that convey the condensed value of creating a child-friendly city in an easy-to-understand way to citizens and can be continuously remembered. We will do our best to change unreasonable perspectives on children and create a child-friendly city where children can live enjoying full rights.”
