[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Yoon Jae-gap, a member of the National Assembly from the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee (Democratic Party, Haenam·Wando·Jindo), announced on the 30th that Jindo County has been selected for the ‘Commercial District Renaissance Contest Project’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing a budget of 6 billion KRW.

The Commercial District Renaissance Contest Project is a key initiative aimed at revitalizing deteriorated old downtown commercial districts. It provides support at a level of approximately 6 billion KRW over five years, targeting the entire area including traditional markets and surrounding alleyway commercial districts, beyond individual support for existing single markets and shopping streets.

The budget secured by Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap will be used in three areas: commercial environment improvement, revitalization, and capacity building.

Commercial environment improvement will support street maintenance, infrastructure construction, and convenience facility upgrades in permanent markets. For commercial district revitalization, funds will be used for street branding, operating free markets, and fostering anchor stores.

Finally, capacity projects will be utilized for merchant organization management and building human networks.

In particular, to attract customers, the project will focus on connecting key areas such as Cheolma Square to Jindo Arirang Five-way Intersection in the Nammun-ro commercial district of Jindo-eup, and from Okhyang Restaurant to the Jindo-eup Senior Welfare Center.

Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap said, “Once the project is implemented, it is expected to greatly contribute to restoring vitality and enhancing competitiveness in the depressed alleyway commercial districts,” adding, “As the local economy has become more difficult due to COVID-19, I will continue to pay attention and make efforts to revitalize the alleyway commercial districts.”
