[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Federation of SMEs (Chairman Kim Ki-moon) held the '3rd Joint Business Committee Meeting of 2020 (Chairman Chae Hyuk)' on the 30th at the Korea Federation of SMEs in Yeouido, where they discussed checking the current issues of SME cooperatives' joint projects, discovering areas for improvement, policy suggestions, and plans for promoting new types of joint projects.
Although there were over 5,000 SME support policies in the first half of this year, they were virtually ineffective for SME cooperatives. Until now, it has been very difficult for SME cooperatives to have guarantee issuance or cooperative research institutes recognized as 'corporate-affiliated research institutes,' and cooperative workers were not included as eligible participants in the '(Youth) Tomorrow Filling Deduction' program. Starting from April next year, the SME status of SME cooperatives will be recognized, and development ordinances will be enacted by metropolitan and basic local governments, enabling government and local government support for joint project promotion. As a result, joint project promotion is expected to expand significantly.
The Joint Business Committee decided to actively pursue practical suggestions and activities for discovering, sharing, and spreading various successful joint project cases. Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, stated, "We will actively support SME cooperatives to leap forward as a core platform for joint projects among SMEs," adding, "To revitalize joint projects, we will discover government and local government support policies that SME cooperatives can participate in and create and disseminate good utilization cases."
