S-OIL, 2020 Citizen Hero of the Year Awards Ceremony

S-OIL, 2020 Citizen Hero of the Year Awards Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] S-OIL held the '2020 Citizen Hero of the Year Awards Ceremony' on the 30th at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

S-OIL announced that it selected 19 Citizen Heroes of the Year who demonstrated righteous sacrifice to save neighbors in danger and presented them with plaques and prize money totaling 140 million KRW. The award ceremony, attended by the recipients, was held in a simplified manner due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

S-OIL awarded prize money and plaques to citizen heroes who showed courage, wit, and a spirit of sacrifice in critical situations, including Shin Dong-jun (male, 22), who supported the lower part of a rescue ladder to help people evacuate safely during a fire at a hospital in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do in July; Aliakbar (male, 28), who discovered a fire in a one-room building where he lived in Yangyang-eup, Gangwon-do, alerted people, helped them evacuate, and assisted in rescue; and Kim Gil-young (male, 52), who contributed to rescuing farmers trapped in fields due to heavy rain in the Yanggu area of Gangwon-do.

Al Katani, CEO, said, "I was deeply impressed that there are so many righteous citizens around us," adding, "Like these hidden heroes, S-OIL will also strive to be a guardian that people can trust and rely on."

Since 2008, S-OIL has discovered a total of 249 citizen heroes over 13 years, supporting them with 1.8 billion KRW, aiding those who have demonstrated brave civic spirit by saving neighbors in dangerous situations.
