Dr. Ko Jehee, Former Samsung Employee, Publishes Book on Pungsu-Jiri Secrets
"Aligned with Landscape Architecture and Ecological Architecture, Not an Unscientific Discipline"
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] "Pungsujiri (Feng Shui) is not a superstition. It is a traditional Korean environmental philosophy and a natural ecology condensed with the wisdom of our ancestors' lives."
Dr. Goh Jeh-hee (photo), who has long studied Pungsujiri, has published a new book titled Secret Pungsu (21st Century Books). The book contains the secrets of Pungsujiri. In the book, Dr. Goh reveals the 'money-attracting' Pungsujiri techniques he discovered through years of research. It includes interesting stories such as which stores become hugely successful, what plants should be grown to achieve success, and why wealthy households do not have aquariums.
Dr. Goh began studying Pungsujiri following the International Monetary Fund (IMF) financial crisis. "I worked at Samsung Group for 14 years, but in 1998, the IMF crisis occurred, and I took voluntary retirement. Since reemployment was difficult, I started studying Pungsujiri seriously."
Dr. Goh identified Jayang-dong, Guui-dong, Apgujeong-dong, Cheongdam-dong, and Dongbu Ichon-dong in Seoul as prime locations for becoming wealthy.
"There is a saying, 'If the mountain is beautiful, noble people come; if the water is good, wealth comes.' Wealth is closely related to water. If the flow of water can be seen far away, wealth tends to escape. If water pools in front of a property, wealth accumulates accordingly. Also, it is good if water flows from several places, gathers in one spot, and then slowly flows out. In Seoul, the Han River flows around like a belt at the waist, and places where it curves like this have abundant wealth luck."
After graduating from Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in Business Administration, Dr. Goh completed his master's and doctoral courses in Environmental Ecology Engineering at Korea University Graduate School. He argues that many principles and basic directions of modern landscape architecture and ecological architecture theory align with Pungsujiri. Pungsujiri is not an irrational or unscientific study of our ancestors.
In 2006, Pungsujiri was selected as one of the 'Top 100 Korean Ethnic Cultural Symbols' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. At that time, the ministry selected ethnic cultural symbols based on their archetypal symbolism of Korean culture and their potential for use as cultural and artistic content.
About two years ago, Dr. Goh launched a YouTube channel called 'JayJ Pungsu TV.' He believes that Pungsujiri must continue to evolve with the times to survive as an academic discipline. Dr. Goh consistently uploads 3 to 4 videos per month to educate the younger generation about Pungsujiri.
Dr. Goh emphasized, "Pungsujiri is spreading widely not only in China and Japan but also in the West. There are many aspects that can contribute to future generations as well."
