[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Gyeongnam Pharmaceutical announced on the 30th that it is soon scheduled to register its avian influenza disinfectant 'Baktan-S' with the Public Procurement Service.
Baktan-S, released by Gyeongnam Pharmaceutical, is an excellent disinfectant not only against avian influenza (AI) virus but also against foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and African swine fever (ASF) viruses. The product has obtained approval from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' Quarantine Headquarters, the licensing authority for animal disinfectants, and has undergone detailed testing by the Animal Experiment Research Institute.
Gyeongnam Pharmaceutical expects that Baktan-S will help prevent the spread of the recently expanding avian influenza and assist in local government quarantine efforts.
The currently marketed Baktan-S is undergoing contract procedures with the Public Procurement Service's Nara Marketplace and the NongHyup system purchasing project to facilitate smooth supply to local governments and livestock farms.
A company official stated, "Baktan-S is a product with excellent disinfecting power and ease of handling," adding, "It is a 'safe disinfectant' that resolves environmental risks to aquatic life living in rivers and streams, which have been pointed out as issues with some disinfectants, as well as safety concerns for disinfectant handlers." He continued, "Since it is widely used as a safe and effective disinfectant by both livestock farms and livestock-related quarantine agencies, we expect it to contribute to the development of the livestock industry."
