"If President Moon is confident... Ruling party and Chu, stop hiding behind"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, criticized the government and ruling party on the 30th, saying, “It is not responsible politics to do as you please just because you hold power. That is what a dictatorship does.” He added, “Just because you won an overwhelming victory of 180 seats in the general election does not mean that the Democratic Party has a free pass for four years of one-party rule in the National Assembly and five years of Moon Jae-in’s soft dictatorship marked by incompetence and lawlessness.”
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Ahn said, “Why do the Board of Audit and Inspection, the legislature, the opposition parties, and the media exist? Does it mean that while the country is falling into ruin, the people, the opposition, and constitutional institutions must just stand by?” He added, “The people can resist unjust government behavior, the opposition can criticize, and constitutional institutions with authority can check and restrain.”
Ahn pointed out, “There is a saying that it is difficult to climb over a wall once when stealing, but once you do it once, the second and third times become easy. The nature of power is the same.” He said, “The current state of the Moon Jae-in administration is exactly like that.” He continued, “People in this administration are intoxicated by the sweetness of power and the cheers of their supporters, stirring up the whole country like a beehive. The entire nation is becoming an irreversible chaos and lawless land.” He added, “The ‘rule of law’ that should control the pursuit of private interests by those in power has been distorted into ‘rule by law’ that crushes political opponents. In short, the foundation and discipline of the Republic of Korea are collapsing entirely.”
Ahn asked, “I ask President Moon Jae-in: Do you think the Moon administration is a democratic government? Do you think the current situation in the Republic of Korea is normal? Is there any livelihood policy at all?” He said, “If the president and this administration are proud and confident about the rule of law and democracy, then don’t hide behind the Democratic Party and Minister Choo. As the person responsible for state affairs, sincerely share opinions with party leaders.”
Ahn said, “Whether private or public, the form does not matter. There are many national issues, but let’s first talk about how to organize and execute next year’s budget.” He added, “Livelihood is the foundation of politics, and the budget is the touchstone that shows how livelihood issues will be resolved.”
