Installation of 38 CCTV Cameras in Three Unregistered Markets (Yaksu Market, Omokgyo Jungang Market, Sinjeong Jeil Market) in Market Support Blind Spots... Ensuring a Safe Market Environment and Revitalizing Traditional Market Commercial Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will complete the installation of a total of 38 CCTVs by December to create a safe market environment in three unregistered markets facing crises due to commercial district stagnation and safety issues caused by the spread of COVID-19 and successive fires in traditional markets.
All 'registered markets' in the area, which are eligible for the traditional market facility modernization project, already have CCTVs installed. However, unregistered markets outside the support scope have not had CCTVs installed to monitor the entire market situation, resulting in ongoing safety concerns for visitors and market merchants.
Accordingly, Yangcheon-gu announced that it plans to complete the installation of CCTVs by December in three unregistered markets in the area (Yaksu Market, Omokgyo Jungang Market, Sinjeong Jeil Market) to facilitate tracking of COVID-19 confirmed patients' movements and fire monitoring.
A total of 38 CCTVs will be installed: 11 units at Yaksu Market, 11 units at Sinjeong Jeil Market, and 16 units at Omokgyo Jungang Market.
In addition, the district is devising various support measures for small business owners, including emergency subsidies funded by contingency reserves for stores within unregistered markets and unregistered merchants within registered markets, who are in blind spots of support despite difficulties caused by the spread of COVID-19.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “The installation of CCTVs in unregistered markets will lay the foundation for revitalizing unregistered traditional markets, which are currently facing the greatest difficulties, by creating a safe shopping environment. We will continue to promote facility improvement plans alongside steady quarantine activities to revitalize the traditional market commercial districts that have been stagnated due to COVID-19.”
