[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] As the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continues, new confirmed cases were reported across the country on the 29th.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, the total number of new confirmed cases nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day was 328. This is 8 fewer than the 336 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Since counting continues until midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced based on 0:00 on the 29th is expected to increase further, reaching the 400s. On holidays, the number of tests tends to be lower than on weekdays, leading to a decrease in new confirmed cases.
Among the 328 cases in the interim tally by city and province, 200 were in the metropolitan area and 128 in non-metropolitan areas. By region, there were 125 in Seoul, 56 in Gyeonggi, 51 in Busan, 22 each in Chungbuk and Gyeongnam, 19 in Incheon, 9 in Jeonbuk, 7 in Chungnam, 4 each in Gwangju and Gangwon, 3 in Ulsan, 2 each in Daejeon and Jeonnam, and 1 each in Jeju and Daegu. No additional confirmed cases were reported in Gyeongbuk and Sejong by 6 p.m.
From the 26th for four consecutive days, the daily new confirmed cases were 581 → 555 → 503 → 450, marking three consecutive days in the 500s before dropping to the 400s. The domestically transmitted new confirmed cases were 552 → 525 → 486 → 413.
Regarding major infection cases, new cluster infections related to a ping-pong hall, sports facilities, and a construction company were confirmed in Seoul, indicating ongoing transmission in daily life.
The cumulative confirmed cases for the newly discovered clusters at a ping-pong hall in Dongdaemun-gu, a sports facility in Nowon-gu, and a construction company in Seocho-gu are 11, 10, and 13 respectively. Confirmed cases related to Hongdae Saegyo Church in Mapo-gu (146), a dance and aerobics academy in Gangseo-gu (176), Sauna No. 1 in Seocho-gu (78), and Sauna No. 2 in Seocho-gu (66) continue to increase.
Additionally, cluster infections are spreading related to a kids caf? in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi (86), a kimchi-making gathering in Jecheon-si, Chungbuk (40), Sangmu Base in Jangseong, Jeonnam (18), janggu drum lessons in Busan and Ulsan (106), and group training in Jinju-si, Gyeongnam (66).
