[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 29th, Jeonnam Gurye Police Station announced that on the 27th, a memorial statue unveiling ceremony honoring the noble sacrifice of the late Sergeant Bae Munsu was held at the main entrance on the first floor of the police station building.
The unveiling ceremony was held in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, with about 20 attendees including the Gurye Police Station Chief, colleagues, and bereaved family members. The event proceeded in the order of a moment of silence for the deceased, a report on his career, flower offering and incense burning, and a memorial speech.
The late officer, who belonged to the Eumnae Police Substation of Gurye Police Station, died in the line of duty at the young age of 41 on April 7, 2014, after being hit by a drunk-driving vehicle while escorting a fare evader to the substation.
During his service, he was a model police officer respected by his colleagues, having received a commendation from the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency.
Chief Kang Eunseok expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family on the 6th anniversary of Sergeant Bae Munsu’s death in his memorial speech, stating, “The police spirit of Sergeant Bae Munsu, who sacrificed himself for the safety of the people, will serve as an example to fellow police officers.”
The bereaved family said, “We are grateful that the deceased is not forgotten and remembered,” and added, “We were able to feel pride and honor as part of the police family.”
Gurye Police Station plans to engrave the phrase “We will not forget you” in the memorial space set up at the main entrance on the first floor of the building to inform police colleagues and citizens visiting the police station of the deceased’s police spirit.
