[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] On the 29th, a car bomb attack occurred in Ghazni District, eastern Afghanistan, resulting in more than 50 police officers being killed or injured.

According to major foreign media, an explosive device loaded in a jeep detonated at a police base on the outskirts of Ghazni District that morning.

A spokesperson for the local health authorities stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency, "At least 30 police officers were killed and 21 were taken to the hospital after the explosion," adding, "The number of casualties may continue to change."

The Afghan Ministry of Interior announced, "At around 7:37 a.m., a suicide car bomb attack occurred on the outskirts of Ghazni District, and the attacker was killed," but did not disclose the status of the victims.

Although no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, local officials suspect the armed rebel group Taliban to be behind it.

The Taliban, which signed a peace agreement with the United States in February, began peace negotiations with the Afghan government in Doha, Qatar, on September 12, but have yet to produce results. Despite the peace talks, large and small terrorist acts by the Taliban and the Islamic State (IS) continue unabated in Afghanistan.

On the 21st of this month, about 20 rockets were fired into residential areas and other parts of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, killing 10 people and injuring more than 50. On the 24th, two bomb attacks in central Bamiyan resulted in 14 deaths and over 40 injuries.
