[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] On the 29th, Yoon Geon-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the opposition party's offensive demanding President Moon Jae-in's statement regarding the decision to suspend Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's duties, saying, "They now criticize the president's silence, but in the past, when the president spoke, 40 million people suffered, and when the president was silent, the people were comfortable."
On the same day, Yoon said on Facebook in the afternoon, "Seeing the united attack on the president's silence from first-term to multi-term lawmakers, I suddenly recall their behavior from over ten years ago," referring to remarks made by members of the then Grand National Party during the late President Roh Moo-hyun's era.
He pointed out, "The Grand National Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, created a frame that the president was 'frivolous, low-class, and talkative,' and attacked daily. Beyond the level of attacks, they poured out venomous curses," adding, "Those who used to attack the president's words now pour venomous curses on the president's silence."
He continued, "They criticize the president for being silent, but from the beginning, the People Power Party has no interest in the president's intentions," emphasizing, "Their goal is to undermine the president's support base ahead of the election anyway."
Yoon also appealed to the first-term members of the People Power Party protesting in front of the Blue House, saying, "Stop looking at the Blue House and please look at the people," and urged, "Do not drag the president into political strife to gain political benefits. The more you do that, the harder it is for the people."
