Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station: "Fire Equipment Malfunction... Watch the Video and Follow Along"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Im Jongbok) is promoting a special policy that allows building personnel to easily take measures against false alarms of fire facilities through videos self-produced by the fire station.

According to Gwangsan Fire Station on the 29th, false alarm dispatches of fire facilities in the Gwangju area accounted for 1,993 cases (19.1%) out of 10,441 safety dispatches until September, ranking second highest after beehive removal dispatches with 2,288 cases (21.9%).

Although false alarm dispatches of fire facilities decreased by 3.6% compared to the previous year, they still account for a significant proportion.

Accordingly, Gwangsan Fire Station prepared a special policy titled “How to Take Measures Against False Alarms of Fire Facilities by Watching Videos” to reduce the waste of firefighting resources caused by false alarm dispatches and to allow focus on the core tasks of firefighting such as fire, rescue, and emergency medical services.

By introducing a method where building personnel scan a QR code with a smartphone to play a video on how to take measures against false alarms of fire facilities, instead of the previous method of referring to a printed guide, it became easier for personnel to understand and take appropriate actions while watching the video.

Chief Im Jongbok said, “We will continue to discover and promote various special policies to prevent waste of firefighting resources due to false alarm dispatches and to avoid gaps in firefighting resources during emergency dispatches.”
