Daegu City, International Machinery Industry Expo Closes ... Over 8,000 Visitors Rush to Exhibition

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Daegu City announced on the 29th that over 8,000 visitors attended the '2020 Daegu International Machinery Industry Exhibition' held from the 24th to the 27th with 240 participating companies, achieving export consultation amounts of 64.6 million USD and contract promotion amounts of 48.3 million USD.


This year's Daegu International Automation Equipment Exhibition saw the participation of major machine tool and welding equipment companies such as Daesung Hightech and IGM Service Korea.


At the Parts and Materials Industry Exhibition, the Korea Construction Living Environment Testing & Research Institute formed a promotional booth with eight local door hardware companies and held a purchase consultation meeting attended by construction companies and demand organizations, conducting 64 consultations worth 5.6 billion KRW. The Ministry of Industry's first-time participant, the Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang) Support Center, also received great responses through corporate consultations on export, regulations, and support policies, as well as listening to difficulties.


In particular, despite the challenging environment due to COVID-19, major domestic and international robot companies such as Hyundai Robotics, Korea Yaskawa Electric, Stobri Korea, and Korea Epson participated in the International Robot Industry Exhibition, presenting trends for the untact era such as manufacturing robot automation standard processes. Demonstration events featuring lifestyle convergence service robots produced with support from Daegu City, including robot cafes and snowflake bingsu manufacturing robots, attracted visitors' attention.

Under the theme "Keywords for Robot Utilization in the Post-COVID Era," the '2020 Daegu Global Robot Business Forum' was held in a hybrid on- and offline format, with participation from 22 clusters across 19 countries. About 500 people attended, including 200 onsite participants and 300 online participants, making it a great success.


Kim Kyunghoon, Executive Director of CJ Logistics, who attended as the keynote speaker, introduced "The Use of Robots in Current and Future Logistics," while Ha Jungwoo, CEO of Bear Robotics, presented "Utilization Plans for Serving Robots in the COVID Era."


The video export consultation held on the 24th and 25th was attended by 10 companies from Mongolia, Vietnam, China, and others invited by KOTRA, along with 14 companies from the Shenzhen Machinery Association in China. Participating companies such as Mijin Hightech and iRobo achieved 84 consultations worth 64.6 million USD. In the purchase consultation for large and medium-sized enterprises, 16 domestic large and medium-sized enterprise buyers were invited, achieving 81 consultations worth 2.2 billion KRW through video consultations.


Choi Unbaek, Director of the Economic Bureau of Daegu City, said, "I hope this Machinery Industry Exhibition provided a good opportunity to give hope to companies struggling due to COVID-19," adding, "When the new EXCO annex is completed next year, we will make further efforts to enhance the professionalism of the exhibition and increase the scale of robot and machine tool exhibitions to help participating companies increase their sales."
