[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun will preside over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting at 3 PM on the 29th, followed by an emergency press briefing starting at 4:30 PM.
He will announce strengthened quarantine measures related to the third wave of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
At the press briefing, Prime Minister Chung plans to specifically explain various enhanced quarantine measures decided at the earlier CDSCH meeting, including whether to raise the social distancing levels in the metropolitan area and nationwide, and will directly answer questions from the press.
Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neung-hoo and Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Jeong Eun-kyeong are expected to attend the briefing.
Regarding the metropolitan area, where the spread is currently severe, it is likely that the social distancing level 2 will be maintained for the time being, but additional facility operation restrictions for indoor sports facilities and saunas, a "2+alpha (α)" plan, are being actively considered.
